School Breakfast Initiative Targets Child Hunger
CDF-MN has launched an initiative to fight child hunger by increasing the number of students who eat breakfast at school. In Minnesota, only 39% of the free breakfasts that are available to low-income children under the federal School Breakfast Program are actually served, creating an annual “missing meals” gap of almost 30 million.
Through a grant from Hunger-Free Minnesota, CDF-MN is partnering with schools throughout the state to identify and overcome barriers to school breakfast participation. One-time infrastructure grants are available to help schools fund pilot breakfast programs.
If you know of a school district that might be interested in CDF-MN’s school breakfast initiative, please contact Debbie Leone, leone@cdf-mn.org, or Jason Langworthy, langworthy@cdf-mn.org.
